A decade ago, only the most advanced gardeners knew about herbicides and their use in summer cottages. But time does not stand still, and today many people use the weed killer “Hurricane Forte” in their beds, intended for the total extermination and removal of unnecessary vegetation in the areas.
Judging by the reviews, the herbicide is effective, but only if used correctly. Before preparing the poison solution and pouring it into the sprayer, starting the “punitive” operation, you should carefully study the instructions, useful recommendations on dosages, norms, and only then act.
What is "Hurricane"
"Hurricane Forte" is a concentrate of potassium salt. The product is brown in color, dissolves well in water and is quickly absorbed into the ground. The liquid does not have a strong odor.
The weed killer "Hurricane" is a continuous action herbicide. This means that it affects both the stems and leaves, as well as the root system of plants.
It also does not distinguish between cultivated and weed plants. Therefore, it cannot be used during the growing season. Despite this, Hurricane has an undeniable advantage - it effectively removes weeds even along paths and fences, and if the concentration of the solution is increased, it can even destroy bushes and young trees.
Purpose
Hurricane Forte weed remover is a three-component, non-selective, post-emergence herbicide. It has pronounced activity against any monocot, dicotyledon, tree, herbaceous and shrub plant. The use of "Hurricane Forte" is justified in fallow areas, crop fields as pre-sowing treatment, areas not subject to agricultural use, and dehydration of plant grain crops.
They resort to the help of “Hurricane Forte” for beds before sowing annual crops, planting seedlings, and as a cleaning after harvesting. In the autumn, Hurricane Forte works great for garlic. Destroys weeds that reproduce by division of rhizomes, root suckers, broadleafs, cereals and others.

Operating principle of "Hurricane"
The green part of the plants is sprayed with an aqueous solution of the drug. Hurricane weed chemicals wash away the protective layer from leaves and stems and penetrate into the plant. The poison makes its way to the roots through internal channels.
A few days after spraying, the grass leaves begin to turn yellow and dry out, and after a couple of weeks the plant dies completely. Since the roots of the weeds are also affected, new grass cannot grow in this place for some time.
Additional treatment of the area may be necessary next year because... the herbicide does not affect plant seeds that may have remained in the ground.
The same principle applies to shrubs and young trees. If the concentration is chosen correctly, they die within 1-2 months.
The drug does not accumulate in the ground, regardless of the concentration of the solution. Therefore, the soil can be treated with Hurricane and after 2-3 weeks you can begin to cultivate it.
General information
Hurricane Forte was developed and produced by Syngenta Crop Protection (Switzerland) as a means for clearing land areas of weeds and any other unwanted vegetation. The drug is effective against almost all living plants, monocotyledons and dicotyledons, herbaceous and woody: it penetrates into their tissues through roots, leaves, unsuberized bark (systemic action), accumulates in the meristem and suppresses almost all life processes. In the soil of the Far East, Hurricane Forte quickly, within 2 weeks in summer and 2-3 months. in winter it breaks down into harmless components. However, in damaged objects, the drug's DV lasts for a long time, as long as there are living cells there, and then disintegrates along with the dead plant (see Fig.).
Therefore, Hurricane Forte is used exclusively for clearing soil that is already overgrown with weeds, and it is unacceptable to use it for cultivating productive areas. Preventive pre-sowing application of the drug “on bare ground” is useless - it will disintegrate before the unwanted vegetation germinates.

Chemical formula of potassium glyphosate
The active ingredient of Hurricane Forte is potassium glyphosate, a representative of alkylphosphonic acids, which “grabs” potassium ion, the formula in Fig. on right. Glyphosates are part of many other strong herbicides: Argument Star, Aristocrat Super, Volnik, Helios Extra, GlyBest, Glyfoshans Super, Goliath, Grunge, Rap, Roundup Extra, Strong, Sniper, Sprut Extra, Tornado Total; Of these, Sniper, Sprut Extra and Hurricane Forte are allowed for use in private household plots, although the registration period for the latter in the Russian Federation has expired.
To make the presentation more accessible, potassium glyphosate is referred to in many sources as the potassium salt of glyphosate, which is not entirely correct from a chemist’s point of view. There is no clearly identified oxygen ion in the molecule of this substance; The potassium ion seems to be constantly rushing between two oxygens in the electron “cloud” common to the three of them. Alkali metal salts are generally chemically stable, but the unstable position of potassium in this case makes the molecule fragile: as soon as potassium “senses” a more reliable partner, it “throws” glyphosate and joins it. The base molecule is highly susceptible to hydrolysis, photolysis and chemical influences - it breaks down to an atom. If potassium glyphosate gets into the plant, then it seems to be incurably eaten to death.
Biogens
One of the reasons for the sad fame of FOS is their release of biogenic phosphorus during the breakdown. Its entry into the environment provokes the growth of blue-green algae in water bodies; on land - the same weeds, and an excess of nutrients has a depressing effect on cultivated vegetation.
Potassium glyphosate, when broken down, releases a full range of essential plant nutrients NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium). Hurricane Forte dosages are comparable to the application rates of basic fertilizers (see below). This is what often causes complaints from amateur plant growers: “After herbicides, everything you need doesn’t grow, and the weeds go crazy.” Therefore, this herbicide should under no circumstances be used systematically from year to year. Hurricane Forte is a one-time remedy for clearing neglected lands of unwanted vegetation and nothing more.
Compatibility, durability, storage
The above properties of potassium glyphosate make it incompatible in tank mixtures with any other agrochemicals. Which should hardly be considered a disadvantage, because... in circumstances requiring the use of Hurricane Forte, other pesticides/repellents/fertilizers are simply not needed.
Potassium glyphosate solution with a concentration greater than approx. 3.6% is quite stable. Hurricane Forte is produced in the form of a 50% aqueous solution (BP 500 g/l) and can be stored in a dark place in its original container for 3 or more years; Selecting the drug in parts for gradual use is acceptable.
However, in weak DV solutions (up to 2.5%), hydrolysis begins, so it is necessary to fill the device in no more than 2-2.5 hours. This is the second of the reasons for the above-mentioned complaint from amateurs: after spraying Hurricane Forte all day, they, starting at approx. from the 3rd hour, instead of a desiccant, they give a dose of complete fertilizer, which is lethal for cultivated vegetation, but tolerated and absorbed by weeds.
Scope of application
"Hurricane Forte" can be used in any areas where weeds appear. The drug does not have an unpleasant odor and is quickly absorbed into the ground, therefore it is safe for people and pets and can be used, including in public areas. "Hurricane" is used in the following areas:
- In fields and around industrial enterprises;
- In private garden plots and vegetable gardens;
- Before plowing virgin plots of land;
- To destroy grass between paving slabs and along fences;
- In parks and squares.
“Hurricane” helps to get rid of weeds with a very developed root system, which are very difficult to get rid of by weeding, for example:
- Horsetail;
- Dandelion;
- Wheatgrass;
- Convolvulus;
- Burdock.
Since the drug equally inhibits both weeds and cultivated plants, in the garden it should be used only between beds and try not to touch fruit plants.
Reviews
Let's find out what ordinary summer residents and gardeners say about the drug Hurricane.
- Galina, 55 years old, Penza: “I have had a dacha for a long time, and I grow literally everything on it: there are vegetables and fruits, berry beds, herbs, potatoes, flowers. If you used to deal with weeds simply by weeding, then with age it becomes more and more difficult to do this work. There are many beds, little strength. Therefore, for the last few years I have been using the Hurricane herbicide to quickly destroy weeds on the site before sowing. I like the product for its effectiveness, quick action, and the fact that it does not harm the soil and plants. Now I only weed individual weeds, and I destroy continuous growth only with Hurricane.”
- Olga, 48 years old, Rostov-on-Don: “Our family owns a farm located in the region: these are several fields with potatoes, corn, and sunflowers. As you understand, in an industrial area, digging and weeding cannot control weeds. That's why we use herbicides - we try to use effective and safe ones. In recent years, we usually use Hurricane, a reliable herbicide that quickly rids fields of weeds and prepares them for sowing. I like the product because it has a long-lasting effect and is also economical in consumption. I can confidently recommend that Hurricane in small packages is convenient for treating small garden plots.”
Instructions for use "Hurricane Forte"
How to properly dilute Hurricane Forte from weeds is described in detail by its instructions for use. So, if you plan to get rid of annual weeds, pour 20-30 ml of the product per 10 liters of water, for perennial herbs you will need up to 50 ml of the product, and to destroy bushes up to 80 ml of the product per 10 liters of water.
Before diluting “Hurricane” for weeds, think about how much area you need to treat. The instructions indicate that to treat one shrub it takes about 1 liter of the prepared solution; for one tree you will need 2-3 liters. To spray 350-400 square meters of soil with weeds, you need to dilute 10 liters of the product.
Although there are no plants that do not react at all to Hurricane, reed grass and reeds are less susceptible to it than other plants. To treat them, you need to dilute 50-60 ml of the product per 10 liters.
First aid for poisoning
The occurrence of any manifestations of illness during work with the product requires immediate cessation of contact with the substance. You must immediately leave the work area, get rid of work clothes and shoes. It is recommended to seek help from a doctor - a toxicology specialist.
The active substance "Hurricane Forte" has unlimited solubility in any liquid; the manifestation of symptoms of poisoning indicates the spread of the substance throughout the body. Potassium "Glyphosate" has no homemade antidotes. Neutralization methods are available to a qualified healthcare professional. If you were poisoned by Hurricane Forte, drank sorbent or washed your stomach, this method of help will not work.
How and in what to breed “Hurricane”
Special sprayers are used to spray weeds. Clean water is poured into the tank of the device to half its volume, then the required amount of “Hurricane” is added and water is added to the top. Before spraying, shake the container well.
If you need to treat an area smaller than 350 square meters, it is not necessary to dilute 10 liters of the drug, you can use a smaller volume, the main thing is to maintain the proportions of the herbicide and water.
To dilute the solution, you need to use only clean, preferably filtered water; impurities in the water make the drug less effective.
Degree of toxicity
Having penetrated the soil, Hurricane loses activity and breaks down into harmless substances:
- water;
- ammonia;
- carbon dioxide;
- phosphorus compounds.
Therefore, 2 weeks after treating the weeds, you can cultivate the treated area and plant cultivated species for consumption.
Hurricane is non-toxic to birds, bees and other insects, and does not harm the body of domestic animals. But the herbicide is poisonous to fish, so it is not used near water bodies inhabited by fish.
The drug is also toxic to humans. Inhalation of vapors or ingestion of a few drops of the solution leads to severe poisoning.
How and when to spray weeds
The instructions for the product indicate that weeds can be sprayed from May to November. If re-treatment is required, they are carried out 6 months apart.
You can spray plants with poison only in dry and windless weather. It is better to check the weather forecast in advance; it is advisable that there is no precipitation in the next 4-6 hours after the procedure.
Only green plants need to be sprayed. Through dried leaves, the product will not be able to penetrate to the roots.
not only kills weeds, but also protects the soil from erosion and helps retain moisture.
During the first week after spraying, it is not recommended to loosen or dig up the soil. This way you can damage the roots of the weeds, and the drug will not work as well. For the same reason, you should not mow the grass or dig up the soil before applying the herbicide.
Preparation of working solution
To do this, you need to open the tube, pour 1-2 liters of water into a bucket and add the required amount of the drug to it. The solution is thoroughly mixed, after which it is necessary to bring it to the required volume and spray the area in dry, windless weather. After just three hours, the drug is completely absorbed and even heavy rain will not reduce its effectiveness. To treat fields intended for sowing flower and ornamental crops, it is necessary to use a solution of 60 ml/10 liters of water. For the future lawn, it is necessary to increase the concentration to 90 ml / 10 liters of water.
Compatibility with other chemicals
"Hurricane Forte" can be used in conjunction with most drugs for treating plants and controlling insect pests. To avoid having to spray the area twice, you can dilute Hurricane according to the instructions, and add another product to the prepared solution.
During the spraying process, the container must be shaken periodically.
The modern and effective drug "Hurricane Forte" will help you get rid of even the most chemical-resistant weeds.
Security measures
Herbicide "Hurricane" belongs to the second class of danger for humans and animals, to the third - for bees. It is necessary to take precautions to avoid poisoning, treat areas only in special clothing, goggles and gloves.
The time to enter the herbicide-treated areas is no earlier than two weeks. The product is highly toxic to fish, so work is carried out away from bodies of water.
If the product enters the body, take activated charcoal, induce vomiting and be sure to consult a doctor. If the solution gets on the skin, wash these areas of the body with water or a baking soda solution.
Herbicide "Hurricane Forte" is a reliable assistant for summer residents in the fight against weeds. The correct approach and reasonable use of the chemical will allow you to forget about problems with an overgrown area, avoid crop losses, and make work easier in the country.
The clarity of our position is obvious: the implementation of the planned targets helps to improve the pin up quality of standard approaches.
Price
Hurricane Forte is produced in small packages and in bulk. For standard summer cottages, a 100 ml package is sufficient. A large batch for processing fields can be ordered directly from the manufacturer. This is the Swiss company Syngenta, which has distributors in many CIS countries.
The cost of a small bottle (50 ml) averages 100 rubles. A large bottle (500 ml) will cost 650 rubles, but it will be enough to process several fields.
Hurricane Forte is an inexpensive means of controlling annual and perennial weeds. Even the strongest plants are affected by the herbicide, because it contains several complementary components. If you follow the instructions and take all precautions, the drug will not harm humans or the environment.
