Weed Tornado: A Detailed Description of Using a Weed Killer

Instructions for using “Tornado” against weeds will help you determine the dosage of the drug and choose the right time to treat the area - very often weather conditions reduce the effectiveness of the substance to nothing, which makes its spraying pointless. The main advantages of Tornado include high penetrating ability and versatility - this herbicide copes with almost all types of weeds: both annual and perennial. Separately, it is worth noting that over time the substance completely disintegrates in the soil to safe compounds and therefore does not pose a danger to human health.

Composition of the substance

The basis of the drug is glyphosate, a pesticide used to destroy unwanted vegetation, as well as trees and shrubs. "Tornado" contains a high concentration of isopropylamine salt and is guaranteed to destroy more than 155 plant species. Thanks to its liquid form, the substance dissolves in water without residue and easily penetrates into plant cells.

Release form

The chemical can be used to destroy growth along fences, paths, in gardens, as well as when preparing areas for sowing.

For convenient and economical use, the product is available in various volumes:

  • 5 ml – ampoules;
  • 50-100 ml – bottles;
  • 1 liter – bottles;
  • 5-10 liters - canisters.

Benefits of herbicide

Using Tornado in a summer cottage has the following advantages:

  • Economical. Available in ampoules and small volumes. Liquid is easier to dilute than powder. Allows one-time treatment of a small area.
  • Environmentally friendly. Does not harm the future harvest, does not disturb the composition of the soil.
  • Security. Breaks down into components that are safe for humans, animals and insects.
  • Efficiency. A one-time application is enough to keep weeds free for the entire season. Affects the weed completely, including the root system. Destroys more than 150 types of grasses.
  • Application time and price. Used from early spring to late autumn. Affordable.

Types of "Tornado"

  1. Continuous action herbicide. A base product containing glyphosate in an amount of 360 g/l. Not suitable for destroying hogweed and cow parsnip. After a week, seedlings can be planted in the treated area.
  2. "Tornado 500". Contains glyphosate in an amount of 500 g/l. The chemical copes with the overwhelming number of annual and perennial weeds.
  3. "Tornado 540". Glyphosate content increased to 540 g/l. The pesticide successfully copes with the growth of fruit trees and shrubs.

Spectrum of action

All types of vegetation are affected by the drug, including harmful weeds: wheatgrass, sow thistle, thistle, bindweed, dandelion, clover, nettle, hops, etc.

The chemical successfully destroys coastal aquatic plants: reeds, cattails, sedges, etc.

It also successfully fights against deciduous trees and shrubs: alder, birch, rose hips, raspberries and others.

Effect of the drug

Basic principles

When using the “Tornado” weed killer, it is necessary to process carefully, because glyphosate acts equally against both weeds and cultivated crops.

The active substance is absorbed by the greens within several hours after spraying, then delivered to its root part. The death of the plant occurs after 2-3 weeks due to disruption of vital processes.

The chemical begins to work only when it comes into contact with a green, non-yellowed part of the plant and is not absorbed by the root system directly from the soil.

If the weeds have already produced seeds, the seedlings will have to be treated again, because glyphosate is not effective against seeds.

Timing of vegetation destruction

When using “Tornado Extra” against weeds, the first results become noticeable 7-10 days after spraying. The above-ground part of the plant begins to turn yellow, dry out and gradually die.

Shrubs and trees begin to dry out a month after spraying and die completely after 2-3 months.

Pesticide or not?

Desiccation (artificially caused desiccation of plants) is quite widely used in productive agricultural technology for industrial, grain and leguminous crops, if unfavorable weather conditions threaten soaking, rotting and death of the entire standing crop. Plants treated with desiccants at the beginning of seed ripening, “sensing” the end is near, give their last vitality to the accelerated ripening of the embryos of future offspring, and a significant part of the harvest can be saved.

Herbicide Tornado

For industrial fiber crops - fiber flax, jute, hemp (of course, hemp, and not “grass”), etc. - desiccation is used systematically with the opposite purpose, to “distract” the plant from fruiting and thereby increase the quantity and improve the quality of a technical product, and not fruits that are useless in this case. In cotton growing, for the same purpose and to facilitate harvesting, defoliation is used - treating plants with substances that cause leaf shedding.

Desiccants and defoliants are generally not pesticides. Unfortunately, there are no highly specialized drugs for this purpose; For desiccation and defoliation, far from harmless substances with herbicidal action are used. Formally, they belong to agrochemicals, and not to military chemical agents, and therefore have been used more than once for military purposes. The “pioneer” of this application was Great Britain, which first used “orange substance” (“Agent Orange,” a mixture of defoliants and herbicides) in the Malayan War. Then the United States, with all its power and technical equipment, powerless against partisans in the jungle, became famous throughout the world for its massive use of Agent Orange in Vietnam. Only more than 3 million people died from direct contact with the “orange substance” - the scale of the genocide is truly Hitlerian, but the possessed Adik did not even wage an environmental war. Indochina (most of all Vietnam) has still not fully recovered from the consequences of the use of the “orange substance”, this should not be forgotten by those who are overly enthusiastic about agrochemicals. Moreover, the USSR is not innocent in this regard - the consequences of chemical defoliation of cotton still affect Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, although Soviet defoliants were synthesized according to the full scheme and were purified from dioxin in accordance with GOST requirements.

Note: one of the Vietnamese partisan curiosities. One day, two Viekong saboteurs approached the board of an American aircraft carrier in... a canoe, attached a time bomb to its side and left safely. The explosion sank the ship. This is the only case in history. when a modern warship was sunk by a wooden rowing vessel. However, not such miracles happen at sea. For example, during World War II, the old, still equipped with a triple expansion steam engine, the Anglo-Indian minesweeper "Bengal", armed with a 76-mm gun and a pair of anti-aircraft guns, saving the military tanker it was escorting, entered into battle with two Japanese cruisers. As a result of the duel, one of the Japanese exploded and sank, and the second “little Bengal tiger” (as they later called “Bengal”) was so destroyed that it barely crawled to the base and had to undergo repairs for a long time. This is also a unique case - a basic minesweeper, not intended for access to the open ocean, and even a decrepit trough, assigned to the convoy only out of dire need, defeated two cruisers in an artillery battle.

Instructions for use

  1. Spraying of vegetation is carried out at temperatures from +5 to +25 degrees. At low temperatures, life processes in plants slow down or stop completely, which is why the toxic substance may not get into their root system. In hot weather, the aqueous solution evaporates too quickly from the surface of the leaves, which reduces the concentration of the chemical.
  2. Treatment is not carried out during rain, because... water will wash the herbicide off the leaves and shoots. It is better to perform the procedure early in the morning, after the dew has dried, or in the evening in dry weather.
  3. When treating weeds, crops should be protected by covering the rows with film or spunbond.

Solution dosage

To treat 100 m2 of soil, 3 liters of solution is enough. It needs to be treated once a year in the absence of wind, in warm weather in the morning or evening hours.

To achieve a positive effect from the use of the drug, you need to use it correctly. To treat weeds, prepare its aqueous solution (WS):

  • for annual weeds around trees, add 25 ml of the drug to 3 liters of water;
  • for perennial grass weeds, the amount of the drug is increased to 50 ml;
  • to destroy ragweed, burdock, bindweed, wheatgrass, and sow thistle, the dose is adjusted to 75 ml.

How to breed Tornado from weeds

The concentrate is diluted with clean, soft water. In the absence of rain or melt water, you can use simple tap water by adding 1 tsp. baking soda for 5 liters. liquids.

The prepared solution can be stored for 1 day, after which it loses its herbicidal properties.

Cooking technique

  1. Read the instructions and determine the required amount of chemical.
  2. Shake the container with the concentrate thoroughly.
  3. Pour half the required volume of water into the spray bottle.
  4. Slowly pour the concentrate into the spray bottle and mix thoroughly with a wooden spatula.
  5. Add the remaining amount of water.

Dosage of the drug

Working with a toxic substance requires strict adherence to the specified dosages in the instructions. A weak solution will not affect the root system of the plant.

It is recommended to use the following dosages of the drug:

  • to remove vegetation in the garden or vegetable garden, 15-20 ml of concentrate is diluted in 1 liter. water;
  • To treat the area near fences and house paths, use 25 ml of herbicide per 1 liter. water;
  • for spraying shrubs and trees, 30-40 ml of concentrate is diluted in a liter of liquid.

Spray Instructions

Spraying with Tornado against weeds, according to the instructions for use, is carried out at different times of the year, depending on the goals.

In spring:

Before sowing. The area is treated before planting the main crops to rid the area of unnecessary vegetation. After treatment, you need to wait a couple of days until the first signs of wilting appear.

Before sprouts appear. The first sprouts of carrots, potatoes, and beets appear a couple of weeks after planting. This time is enough to treat emerging weeds without causing harm to the crop.

In summer

The chemical can be used to control vegetation along paths and fences.

in autumn

The plot is cultivated in August and September after harvesting. The seedlings are sprayed when they rise 5-10 cm above the ground.

Security measures

When preparing the solution and spraying it, you must strictly adhere to safety precautions:

  • wear clothes that cover your body as much as possible;
  • use protective equipment: glasses, respirator, gloves;
  • It is prohibited to smoke and eat while working with chemicals;
  • the remaining liquid is poured onto the ground;
  • After the spraying procedure, you should wash all outer clothing that the person was wearing, and also take a shower.

Toxicity and precautions

The instructions for use indicate that “Tornado” does not accumulate in the soil - this means that weed poison does not in any way affect the fertility of the site and the quality of future crops.

This does not mean that direct contact with the skin or mucous membranes does not pose any danger. It is necessary to dilute the solution and spray the drug taking into account all recommended precautions:

  • clothing and shoes should be as closed as possible;
  • It is better to wear protective gloves on your hands;
  • the nose and mouth should be covered with a respirator or multi-layer bandage;
  • to protect your eyes you need to purchase special glasses;
  • smoking, drinking or eating while spraying the drug is prohibited;
  • All outer clothing must be washed after treating the area;
  • the remaining solution must be poured onto the ground;
  • just in case, you should thoroughly wash your hands after working with the herbicide and take a shower.

If Tornado gets into your eyes, you should wash them thoroughly and consult a doctor as soon as possible. First aid for poisoning is to artificially induce vomiting. To do this, use activated carbon (4-5 tablets per 1 tbsp.) or another absorbent.

Advice! The spray container must be washed several times with detergent. If Tornado particles remain inside, they can negatively affect crops if the sprayer is subsequently used for fertilizing.

Compatibility of "Tornado" with other means

  • nitrogen fertilizers - the pesticide can be mixed with ammonium sulfate or ammonium nitrate, combining treatment of the area from excess vegetation with fertilizing;
  • “Macho” is a preparation for delaying pesticides on the above-ground part of the plant, helping to increase the effectiveness of “Tornado”;
  • "Bi-58" and "Magnum" are the only herbicides that can be used simultaneously with "Tornado".

Liquid "Tornado" against weeds is a continuous pesticide, so it can destroy not only weeds, but also cultural plantings. Handling poison requires caution and careful study of the instructions in order to accurately follow the dosage regimen when preparing the solution.

Diluted glyphosate is effective and safe for insects and small animals. This statement does not apply to the concentrate contained in ampoules or other factory containers.

The product is easy to use and does not accumulate in the soil, allowing you to plant cultivated plants on the site a week after the treatment.

The chemical is easy to purchase at most garden centers, where it is available in various quantities.

Are there any analogues?

Unfortunately, not every specialized store can purchase the Tornado herbicide.

Can it be replaced? Among worthy analogues, many gardeners highlight:

  • "GlyTERR";
  • "Hurricane";
  • "Glialka";
  • "Glikgos";
  • "Ground";
  • Roundup and others.

If you plan to treat a small area, then it is better to use the drug “Tornado Bau”. This is a ready-to-use composition.
