Greenhouse Signor Tomato: Advantages + Equipment

Greenhouse / Types of greenhouses

A good greenhouse is the key to a rich harvest

Every vegetable grower knows that plants feel better in a greenhouse, grow and ripen faster than in unprotected soil, where it is difficult to protect them from harmful factors such as low temperatures, incessant rain or hail. The right greenhouse helps to get the harvest not only earlier than usual, but also to increase it several times. We will talk about one of them in this article.

  • Features and Benefits

    It is already difficult to come up with something new in the production of greenhouses: the most convenient dimensions have long been calculated, the best shapes have been determined, and permissible loads have been calculated. But new products appear constantly. One of the latest, which appeared on the market just a few years ago, is a greenhouse with a frame made of PVC profile Signor Pomodor.

    Design

    Externally, the Signor Tomato greenhouse differs little from similar arched greenhouses. Its feature is a unique PVC profile from which the frame is assembled. The material for its production is the same plastic from which modern windows and doors are made - strong, durable, resistant to both low and high temperatures and their differences.

    PVC profile for greenhouses

    Profile characteristics:

    • Section 40x40 mm;
    • Service life – up to 40 years;
    • Permissible temperature range – from +70 to -50 degrees;
    • Inert to many chemicals and moisture.

    The covering is cellular polycarbonate, which has recently become the most popular covering material for this type of structure.

    For reference. The standard package includes SPK with a thickness of 4 mm. But you can only purchase a frame, and use polycarbonate of greater thickness and strength (6-10 mm).

    During development, the designers tried to do everything to make planting plants in the greenhouse and caring for them as comfortable as possible for the gardener. In particular, the most convenient dimensions of the shelter were selected:

    • The height of 2.1 m allows even very tall people to stand inside at full height;
    • The width of 3 m allows you to vary the number and width of the beds;
    • The length of the greenhouse can be any multiple of two meters. The most popular designs are 4 and 6 m long, but with the help of special inserts, the price of which is about 4 thousand rubles, and additional coating, it can easily be increased.

    Additional section

    Attention! If you plan to install a greenhouse more than 10 m long, you need to consider an additional ventilation system, since the two doors in the design and the vents located above them will not be enough in hot weather.

    Equipment and assembly

    The greenhouse is produced in the form of separate parts, packaged by type. The package includes:

    • 1 package – straight parts for the side walls and assembly instructions;
    • Package 2 – parts of the upper arches;
    • 3 pack – end parts;
    • 4 pack – components.

    Depending on the required length, the kit may also include another package with parts for a two-meter insert. All of them are very compact and light in weight, which allows the structure to be transported in a passenger car. When purchasing cellular polycarbonate, it is rolled up and can also be easily transported to the site of future use. Assembly of the greenhouse, thanks to a well-thought-out fastening system and mounting holes already made in the profiles, takes little time and can be done with your own hands. The covering is attached to the frame using special self-tapping screws with rubber gaskets to prevent moisture and cold air from penetrating inside.

    Assembled greenhouse

    To install the structure, it is not necessary to make a foundation - it is equipped with legs made of the same plastic profile, which are immersed in the ground by 30-35 cm and are securely held in it. For details on how to assemble a greenhouse, watch the video in this article.

    Advantages

    The advantages of this greenhouse lie primarily in the excellent characteristics of the materials from which it is made. Moreover, we are talking about both the frame and the coating. In addition to strength, PVC profiles have excellent aesthetic properties. It is even, smooth, and does not cause unpleasant sensations when touched at any time of the year, since it does not heat up from the sun and does not cool down in the cold. But its main advantage is its resistance to rotting and damage by bugs (like wood) and corrosion (like metal). Therefore, the frame of the greenhouse does not have to be treated with antiseptics and painted annually, but it can be washed and disinfected without fear. Cellular polycarbonate is also a durable material that is resistant to harmful environmental influences. On the outside it is covered with a film that protects plants from ultraviolet radiation, and on the inside – from the formation of drip condensation. SPC is stronger than glass and film, while its light transmittance is no worse than that of these traditional materials, and its heat-saving properties are much higher. Therefore, most modern plant growers prefer to grow any vegetable and ornamental crops in a greenhouse made of cellular polycarbonate. Both materials are environmentally friendly for plants and people and do not emit harmful substances into the air even in extreme heat.

    Stiffening ribs provide additional strength

    In general, the entire structure is sufficiently strong to withstand mechanical, wind and snow loads, which is facilitated by additional stiffening ribs inside the structure and its arched shape.

    Operating rules

    The operation of the Signor Tomato greenhouse in the summer season is no different from other similar structures. The manufacturer gives some recommendations only for snowy winters. The calculated load that a frame covered with 4 mm thick cellular polycarbonate can withstand is 80 kg/m2. It corresponds to 25-30 cm of freshly fallen snow or 13-15 cm of compacted snow.

    Snow slides off the arched roof on its own if there is not too much of it

    If the load is greater, the structure may not withstand it, so during snowy winters in your region, it is recommended to choose one of the following methods to prevent deformation:

    • Choose thicker material for coating - at least 8 mm.
    • Purchase special supports for the arches, which are not included in the standard package, and install them for the winter under all the upper ties of the arches.
    • Clear the greenhouse of snow after heavy snowfalls using wooden scrapers or other tools with blunt edges that cannot damage the top protective film.

    But the most reliable way is to dismantle the polycarbonate for the winter. This is guaranteed to keep the frame intact, and the soil in the greenhouse will overwinter under natural snow cover, which heals the soil. In the spring, before rebuilding the greenhouse, it will be possible to thoroughly disinfect both the frame and the covering on all sides, getting rid of possible pests and pathogens of various diseases.

    Decent selection of greenhouses in Signore Tomato

    The bestseller for the last five years has been a ready-made greenhouse for cucumbers coated with plastic film. The galvanized frame is not subject to corrosion, and damaged polyethylene is always easy to replace with a new one. Its main advantage is its height, which is comfortable for the free development of plants.

    Also in our catalog are:

    • Greenhouse "Snowdrop". Classic borage on bent arches coated with spunbond. Product lengths are 4, 6 and 8 meters.
    • Greenhouse "Dayas" . A more advanced design, reminiscent of a mini-greenhouse. A reliable zipper and good tension of the protective material provide excellent conditions for crop growth.

    Gardeners are particularly attracted to models with ready-made partitions for arranging beds and having a height of two meters, which makes it possible to work “without bending over.”

    Installation features

    Assembling the greenhouse is not much of a hassle. Thanks to, as they would say today, “intuitive” guidance, anyone can cope with the task.

    The kit is supplied in five 50 kg packages, which can be transported in a regular passenger car. Everything you need for installation work is already included in the package. All you need to do is insert the marked housing parts into the connectors and secure them with self-tapping screws.

    In these five boxes you will find:

    1. Straight pieces going for the ends.
    2. Clamping elements with accessories.
    3. Collapsible arches.
    4. Straight details.
    5. Two-meter insert.
    6. Instructions.

    PVC is attached to polycarbonate using self-tapping screws with rubber gaskets.

    The entire installation process takes about three hours.

    To get the job done you will need a simple tool:

    • A sharp knife for cutting polycarbonate.
    • Roulette.
    • Screwdriver. You can, of course, work with a screwdriver, but it’s still more fun with a power tool.
    • Marker.

    Why do summer residents love the Signor-Tomato greenhouse?

    The main and main advantage of this model is the frame. PVC is quite durable, has a beautiful appearance, due to which the structure easily survives winters and inter-seasonal sudden changes in temperature. It will save your harvest during spring frosts and allows you to grow tender early vegetables.

    The roof is made in the form of an arched weave, and the smooth surface of the ultraviolet film prevents the snow from getting caught, allowing it to slide down. The frame is reinforced from the inside with additional stiffening ribs, which allow it to withstand quite strong loads.

    In addition to what has been said, we can add that plastic does not require seasonal painting, is not afraid of corrosion and does not absorb moisture. It does not rot and mold does not grow on it.

    Polycarbonate sheets are attached once and are not removed for the winter. The profile has a section of 40x40 mm.

    The greenhouse is equipped with two doors and two windows. This allows for efficient ventilation of the interior space. In this way, the most comfortable conditions for plant growth are created in the greenhouse. Especially during the flowering period, when it is necessary to observe temperature conditions for pollination.

    The Signor Tomato greenhouse can do without a foundation. It is replaced by specialized legs made of the same PVC profile, which are buried into the ground to a depth of 30 cm.

    Due to the above features, this model is characterized by increased strength. According to the manufacturers, you can also play football with your children near it. It will withstand even strong blows.

    How to choose the best greenhouse from the manufacturer

    The manufacturer offers 4 configuration options and the ability to manufacture a frame of the desired size (multiples of 2). Polycarbonate, included in the Comfort set, has better characteristics due to the greater thickness of the honeycomb layer. Additionally, you can buy auto-ventilation and auto-watering systems, as well as a flexible heater with a thermostat option.

    Assembly instructions

    Thanks to the detailed instructions, assembling the greenhouse takes about 5 hours and can be done by two people.

    To work you will need:

    • self-tapping screws with rubberized gasket;
    • roulette;
    • sharp knife;
    • screwdriver or screwdriver;
    • marker.

    The work is carried out on a level, marked area, where a trench is dug as described in the instructions.
    Important! During installation, it is necessary to ensure that the polycarbonate is fixed with the protective layer facing outward.

    Assembly occurs in the following order:

    1. After studying the instructions, the parts must be laid out according to the markings applied to them.
    2. First of all, doors and windows are assembled.
    3. Then assemble the end of the greenhouse, marking it with a marker according to the instructions.
    4. A door and a window are installed at the end.
    5. The assembled end with legs is set aside, then you can immediately cover it with polycarbonate or follow the instructions. The polycarbonate sheet fixed with self-tapping screws is cut with a knife along the contour of the arch.
    6. The second end is assembled in the same way.
    7. After the ends, the remaining arcs are assembled.
    8. First, the first end is dug in level, and then the arcs and ties are installed one by one.
    9. At the end, the second end is installed.
    10. Cover the structure with polycarbonate, leaving a 5 cm canopy over the ends. Each sheet overlaps the previous one.
    11. Holes for doors and windows are cut in the polycarbonate at the ends, leaving the required gap.
    12. Lastly, handles and screws are installed.
